About Us
The
United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada or “UA” as it is commonly known is a multi-craft union whose members are engaged in the fabrication, installation and servicing of pipe systems and equipment. There are approximately 340,000 highly skilled UA members who belong to 418 individual local unions across North America.
The HVAC/R Division of the United Association in New Jersey is comprised of four Plumber and Pipefitting Locals. We are the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Service Division within those Locals. We currently have 1,300 members in which 210 are Apprentices. We work for 181 Union Contractors throughout the entire state. The type of work we do is the installation, service and maintenance of commercial and industrial Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment.
The Apprenticeship program is five years of related instruction attending one day every other week at the Training Center which is located in Hazlet. The remainder of your time is spent working for a union contractor.
To become a Journeymen you must attend 200 hours of related classroom and shop instruction and work 1,800 hours a year for the five year program. The Training Center employs four full time instructors, all of which are members of one of our locals and have a great deal of knowledge and diversity about the trade.
